Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice describes how we collects and uses personal information collected from the www.globalprivacybook.com website (the “Site”), the choices available to our users, and the steps they can take to access this personal information, and to request that we correct it or delete it.
In this document, “personal information” means information that may be used to identify an individual, including, but not limited to, a first and last name, physical or electronic mail address, and telephone number.

Your Consent

By using our Site or providing personal information to our Site, you agree and consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information in accordance with the terms below.

Summary

We only collects personal data such as your name or email address if you send it to us to request that we contact you or send you additional information.

We do not disclose any personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. Should this practice change, we will seek your consent before disclosing information for a third party’s direct marketing.

We also collect technical information such as your browser, operating system, or IP address, and monitor the use of our Site in order to improve it and better serve our visitors’ technical and informational expectations.

How we Collect and Use Personal Information

Contact Information

Our Site is designed to allow visitors to browse through the Site without providing any personal information. Certain areas of the site, however, may require or allow for the voluntary submission of personal information, such as name and email address, for example, when a visitor sends us an email or fills out a form to receive our publications.

Our Site is not designed to attract minors or children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18 and will promptly destroy such information if we discover that it has been provided by a minor.

We use contact information to send responses, publications, and invitations that may be of interest to the individual who made the request.

Log information

Our server software gathers general information from all users of our Site. This includes the user’s domain name, browser type, operating system, referring domain, entry page, exit page, the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the user’s computer (or the proxy server you use to access the World Wide Web), as well as the name of the user’s ISP.

We use log information to understand who visits our Site, and what parts of our Site are of interest to our visitors, so that we can better adapt our Site to the interests of our users, and the technologies they use.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Cookies are identifiers that can be sent by a website to a visitor’s browser, to be placed on the hard drive of the visitor’s computer. Session ID cookies are erased when a visitor closes his browser or logs out. Persistent cookies are stored on the visitor’s hard drive for longer periods. We use cookies to assign a unique identification to a visitor’s computer. When a visitor returns to the Site, a persistent cookie allows us to recognize the visitor as a returning visitor. Cookies may also help record previous choices or preferences. To understand more about cookies, see www.allaboutcookies.org

Action tags (also known as pixel tags or web beacons) are small pieces of code, invisible to the user, which are placed on designated pages of the Site. They allow the collection of information such as the date/time a designated page was viewed, or how long the visitor stayed on a specific page. This information is collected in an aggregated format. It allows the creation of reports on website use trends without identifying individual visitors. The analytics reports are used to understand how visitors interact with the pages and content of the website.>

We use cookies and pixel tags to recognize returning visitors and to develop statistics that help us understand how our visitors use our Site in order to improve its content. We do not use cookies or pixel tags to send advertising to our users.

If you do not want us to use cookies, you can set your browser to refuse all cookies or indicate when a cookie is being sent. You can also remove existing cookies from the memory of your browser by using the removal method provided by your browser.

Pixel tags cannot be removed because they are inserted in the code of the website. Analytics tools associated with pixel tags use their own cookie to track visitor interactions. The link between a pixel tag and its cookie can be deactivated by removing the cookie. The pixel tag will still detect the user’s visit anonymously, but, without the link to its cookie, this information will not be associated with other user information.

Information we Share or Disclose

We do not sell, rent, trade, or disclose for consideration any personal information. We do not disclose any personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. Should this practice change, we will seek your consent before disclosing information for a third party’s direct marketing.

Service Providers

We share personal information with organizations that perform services for, or on behalf of Francoise Gilbert, such as communications, database, event management, hosting, mailing, and marketing services. We require these organizations to agree to use the personal information solely to provide services to Francoise Gilbert, to ensure at least the same level of data protection as set forth in this Privacy Notice, and to comply with all applicable legal requirements.

Legal Process

We may disclose personal information to third parties (a) if we are required to do so by law; (b) if we believe that it is necessary in order to conform to the law, cooperate with law enforcement agencies, or comply with legal process served on us; (c) if we believe, upon reasonable grounds, that it is necessary to protect the rights, privacy, safety or property of our Site or its visitors; (d) in connection with an investigation of suspected or actual illegal activity; (e) if we believe it is necessary to pursue available remedies or limit any damages that Francoise Gilbert may sustain, or to collect monies owed to Francoise Gilbert.

Corporate Transactions

In the event of a merger or change of ownership of all or part of Francoise Gilbert, we may transfer personal information to another organization. In this event, we will request the transferee to treat personal information in a manner that is consistent with this Privacy Notice.

Onward Transfers

If we elect to transfer personal information collected through this Site to a third party, we will enter into a written agreement with this third party requiring the third party to provide at least the same level of privacy protection as is set forth in this Privacy Notice.

Choice

If we plan to use personal information for a purpose other than stated in this Privacy Notice, we will offer you the opportunity to choose whether we may do so with your own personal information.

We do not provide personal information to third parties other than as set forth above. If you do not want us to share your personal information with these third parties, please contact us as provided in the section “How to Contact Us” below.

Newsletters; Opt-In

We will send you emails to inform you of recent legal developments or to appraise you of events in which a member of Francoise Gilbert participates and that might be of interest to you if you have elected to receive such emails from us. We will provide the mechanism to be added or removed from our mailing list on the Site. This can also be accomplished by sending us a message to that effect using the “Contact Us” form.

Accuracy – Data Integrity

We endeavor to ensure that any personal information in our possession is as reliable, accurate, current, and complete as necessary for the purposes for which we use that information.

Access; Correction; Amendment

We will provide individuals with access to the personal information about them that we hold within a reasonable time after a written request is made as set forth below in the section “Contact Us” below.

We will correct and amend or delete personal information that is inaccurate, except where the burden or expense of providing access would be disproportionate to the risks to the individual’s privacy in the case in question, or where the rights of persons other than the individual would be violated.

Retention

We keep personal information only as long as it is required for the reasons it was collected. The length of time varies, depending on the nature of the information and the applicable laws or regulations that may require us to preserve and retain data for a longer period. We may retain personal information beyond the end of a person’s relationship with us, but it will be only for so long as it is necessary for us to be able to respond to any issues that may arise later.

When your personal information is no longer required for our purposes, we will destroy, delete, erase or convert it into an anonymous form. We cannot ensure the permanent removal of your information. For example, it may remain in our archives or backup copies.

Removal of personal information

We will use reasonable efforts to remove your personal information from our servers – and/or cease any further use of such information – at any time upon your written request to us, made as provided in the section “How to Contact Us” below.

Security

We take reasonable steps to maintain physical, procedural, and technical security in our offices, information systems, and information storage facilities in order to protect personal information from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, erroneous disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

We attempt to strike a reasonable balance between security and convenience. E-mails are usually sent as unencrypted text. If misrouted or intercepted, an unencrypted email could be read more easily than an encrypted e-mail.

Links to Other Websites

The Site contains numerous links to other websites for your convenience, including but not limited to links to the websites of Aspen Publishers and Wolters Kluwer Law and Business. These websites operate independently from us, and are not under our control. These websites may have their own terms of use and privacy notices in place, which we strongly suggest you review because these terms will apply to your visit to these websites. We are not responsible for the content of these websites, or any products or services they may offer.

Inquiries and Complaints

We are committed to the protection of personal information entrusted to us by the visitors and users of our Site, and are actively involved in current initiatives to preserve individual privacy rights on the Internet. If you have any questions, comments, or complaints about this Privacy Notice, the collection, use, management, or disclosure of personal information, please contact us as set forth in the section “How to Contact Us” below.

If the dispute or complaint cannot be resolved through our internal process, it will be finally settled by arbitration conducted in San Francisco, by one arbitrator member of the American Arbitration Association, and under the rules of commercial arbitration of the American Arbitration Association. Both parties will bear equally the cost of arbitration (exclusive of legal fees and expenses). All decisions of the arbitrator(s) will be final and binding on both parties and enforceable in any court of competent jurisdiction.

Amendments

We may change this Privacy Notice from time to time. We will post a prominent notice on this Site for a reasonable time, to notify you of any significant changes to our Privacy Notice. Unless and until you object in writing (by contacting us as set forth in the section “How to Contact Us” below), changes will apply to your personal information collected from the effective date of the revised Privacy Notice and to existing personal information about you held by Francoise Gilbert.
